Bonjour, Printemps!

Happy [almost] spring! It's currently my spring break, which is awesome. I'll be sewing for the rest of the evening. My inspiration for the rest of the week? All from my new obsession with Pinterest. It's an amazing way to look at the DIY blogs of every person in the world at one time, in pictures. I have gathered so many ideas from it already!

What's on the batting list for this week...

1. Finally finishing the tailoring on this dress

2. Making old granny skirts look awesome like here. ADORABLE.

 

3. Doing a little embroidery

4. Maybe starting a new sewing project?
5. Make a neon belt. I've been loving neon and neutral together.

Winter Break Bucket List

So I have about 2 and a half weeks to do basically nothing, so here's how I'm going to spend my time:

Clean/organize my room

Finish 2 Nancy Drew CD games (my addiction)

Have an internship interview...tomorrow (!!)

Make these for our dorm room, and maybe these too, cuz they're awesome

Make a galaxy print t shirt for my mom

Possibly make a feather mobile for my roomy

Sew a crapload of stuff: tailoring my vintage dress, sewing jeans, sewing that amazing skirt, using up my fabric inventory

See my beau and my girlfriends

Goodwilling it up

Having a happy New Year

What now, oh Mighty One?

It seems like I am at a standstill. Schoolwork is overbearing, but just one more week until Spring Break! If I know what I'm making now, I can finish it by the Tuesday off that week. Odious college visits are taking over Wednesday and Thursday.

Perhaps my Allusion Dress will begin construction? I don't think I have enough fabric, but I'll get some more next Friday [25% off EVERYTHING coupon! love it.]

I'm not really feelin' it right now though.

I kinda want to spend my dinero on other things. My momma spoiled me and bought that

octopus ring that I really wanted. Looking forward to owning it! I guess she felt bad because her Chemistry students always put the stuffed octopus on their heads. I gave that to her as a Mothers Day gift! Look how well she treats it. Like garbage--or a hat--for her students that may be lice-ridden!

So worth it though.

Actually, there's some other stuff I'm craving like a Creamsicle that I'd love to spend money on, well, if I had much:1. A Taro Gomi coloring book! For ages 4-8 ,great for children with disabilities...perfect for a 16 and-a-half year old [who found out yesterday that she is in the 98th percentile of her class!] It's not like you color in lines--they tell you what to draw! It'll be smashing on my trip to Italy Puerto Rico! (We decided on Puerto Rico instead: my brother could never handle all the art and history.)

Other stuff that I'm feelin' includes: vintage jewelry, retro stuff, Mary Frances clutches, Lady Gaga [for whatever reason], deep conditioning, lip stain, and hair accessories. Who knows where my money will end up?

I am so angry, words cannot describe.



I was planning a bake sale fundraiser to help my friend and drum major, Sara, be financially able to go on our band's annual trip. And today, the assistant principal shut it down, because, as she said, the "event is too small." I could not use enough bad words to describe the situation--I'm crushed.

But when I'm angry, I shop. So I went to Joann. Always a good place to let your mind unwind, enjoy the pleasant new selection I fancy very much [seriously! the best fabric in a LONG time].

And so in my frustration, I bought some of this lil beauty:

I dreamt about this fabric. Swiss dots are...well, I will find out! And how it was made to go with a a slightly voluminous shirt in an effort to like my body in such tops. And then I realized that I already owned its soul mate:


What a match made in heaven! I guess I found the white on the model very inspirational?Whatever, I look amazing in white when I'm not as pale as a beluga whale. I don't know if I like the frilly looking chest detail or the tie strings...I was kind of going for minimalistic teenager [ha, now ain't that an oxymoron?!] But I do enjoy the tunic length and the V-neck and the puffed sleeves. And no zippers since this'll be a top! WEIRD.

I dunno. It could be a disaster. =)

I am very excited to see the outcome.

Wardrobe Challenge: Italy

Ah, beautiful Tuscany... where I happen to be spending 9 or so days in June and July!

So here's the challenge: create articles of clothing that I bring along on the trip. Sounds easy right? Not right. Siena might not be the hottest place I've been to, but there's a ton of walking and Italians always look effortlessly brilliant. I've got some competition here. Egads!

Possible clothing choices:

Non Bermuda long short things: McCall's 5633 [attained]

Shorts: Simplicity 3850 [attained]

Blouse: Simplicity 2584 [attained]

Comfy-but-chic sweater with a delicious, hard to find sweater knit for the plane: Burda 12/09 119 [attained]


Never-wrinkle-for-a-moment jersey dress: Vogue 8369 [attained]

And those are the ones I'm considering. But I have others I wanna try out. Maybe.
I have always wanted the pattern above. So badly.

Am I crazy? Has anyone worked with any of these patterns? Do they look smashing? I am dying waiting to find out!
